 ETAN ZAITSU

Bio

Federal Criminal Defense Attorney

In his private practice, Etan is an experienced, client-focused criminal defense attorney, committed to protecting his clients’ rights, through trial, motion and appellate practice challenging police and prosecutor misconduct, Fourth Amendment search and seizure violations, illegal interrogations and coerced confessions, Miranda warning violations, outrageous government conduct, unfair sentencing, and judicial errors.  He maintains a strong belief in the right of all people to have an attorney who will zealously fight for his or her client regardless of the charges. By defending any person accused of any crime, whether guilty or innocent, righteous or profane, defense attorneys are upholding the right of all people to be presumed innocent, and ultimately and eternally are challenging the government to be fairer, more accurate, and more just.

Etan Zaitsu was born and raised in the city of San Francisco, but made his home in the Sacramento region after earning his law degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. His law practice is centrally located in downtown Sacramento, near the Robert T. Matsui United States Courthouse and the Sacramento County Jail. He is admitted to practice in the United States Eastern and Northern Districts of California, and the Ninth Circuit (Sacramento and San Francisco)

At UOP McGeorge, Etan graduated in the top of his class, earning Order of the Coif with Great Distinction. He was named Barrister of the Year and Appellate Advocate of the Year, while winning awards for Best Oralist and Top Brief Writer. He has been coaching McGeorge’s New York National Moot Court Team (law school debate) since 2011, and regularly teaches a yearlong course on persuasive legal writing, research, and oral advocacy as an adjunct professor for McGeorge.

In his private practice, Etan is an experienced, client-focused criminal defense attorney, committed to protecting his clients’ rights through trial, motion, and appellate practice. In pursuit of justice, he is rigorous and exacting in his review of evidence, ready to challenge any violation of his clients' rights, including police and prosecutor misconduct, Fourth Amendment search and seizure violations, illegal interrogations and coerced confessions, Miranda warning violations, outrageous government conduct, unfair sentencing, and judicial errors.  He maintains a strong belief in the right of all people to have an attorney who will zealously fight, regardless of the crime. By standing up for the rights of individual defendants, whether guilty or innocent, righteous or profane, criminal defense attorneys protect the rights of all people to be presumed innocent and to be treated fairly throughout the judicial process. Beyond fierce advocacy, Etan sees his role as a fighter for a fairer, more accurate, and more just criminal justice system.
